Core competencies include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition.
  • Establishes a plan of care appropriate to identified problems, involving the patient according to his or her capabilities and desires.
  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial support.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Qualifications:

Minimum Education

  • Associate’s degree in Nursing: Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing: Preferred

Required Licenses

  • Registered Nurse in Tennessee or another compact state.

Required Skills

  • Certifications: BLS (required at hire), ACLS, NRP (required within 6 months or upon transfer).
  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, and stress management skills.
  • Must achieve a passing score of 85% on the Medication Administration Exam.
