JOB SUMMARY: The Nursing Supervisor embraces person-centered care and manages the direct provision of quality healthcare to all residents. Works with the DNS to ensure staff maintains care as outlined in residents’ plans. Provides orientation to staff and may assume DNS duties in their absence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assumes responsibility for clinical care and operations during shift.
  2. Maintains knowledge of residents’ physical, psychological, and social status, including normal aging and pathological changes.
  3. Schedules staff or reassigns staff in case of absenteeism or emergencies to ensure 24-hour coverage, meeting regulatory requirements and budget goals.
  4. Participates in developing staff orientation and training programs with Staff Development and DNS.
  5. Responds to reports from inspection agencies and consultants in cooperation with DNS.
  6. Participates in establishing goals and objectives for the department.
  7. Identifies staff needs to improve job effectiveness and quality of care.
  8. Supervises medication dispensing to ensure adherence to Pharmaceutical Services Procedures and regulations.
  9. Conducts performance appraisals of licensed personnel with DNS.
  10. Evaluates licensed staff regularly and mentors them; assists charge nurses with discipline and evaluation of health care assistants.
  11. Assists DNS in her absence with administrative functions.
  12. Collaborates with Infection Control Nurse.
  13. Ensures completion of monthly Pharmacy Audits.
  14. Participates in developing and maintaining the Facilities QAPI Program.
  15. Recommends equipment needs to DNS.
  16. Informs DNS of resident condition changes, staffing, and staff issues.
  17. Coordinates nursing units, assists in direct care when necessary.
  18. Supervises and directs healthcare staff to ensure quality care delivery.
  19. Communicates shift information to incoming supervisor.
