The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for general programmatic operations and oversight of the adult trauma program under the direction of the Clinical Program Manager. Responsibilities include concurrent and retrospective extraction from patient charts and entry into the Trauma Registry, trending data points, and completing quality performance management tasks. The position is essential to ensuring accurate, up-to-date data to support research, injury prevention, and quality improvement activities. The Coordinator monitors the data collection process and collaborates with managers, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure an efficient and accurate data collection process. The Coordinator assists the Trauma Clinical Manager to maintain the integrity of the registries, generate queries and reports, and ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations. The adult Trauma Coordinator interfaces with the delivery networks of Yale New Haven Health System.

Responsibilities
  1. Program Performance
    1. Demonstrates effective oversight of performance improvement processes, collaborating with the inter-professional team to provide high quality trauma care.
    2. Conducts primary and secondary reviews of process measures, filters, and complications at regular intervals according to institutional guidelines and regulatory oversight.
    3. Prepares and presents tertiary reviews at trauma morbidity & mortality meetings, including related peer review documents.
    4. Prepares and presents monthly QI and Trauma Operations meeting reports.
    5. Prepares program support documents and reports for trauma program verification.
  2. Quality & Safety
    1. Collaborates with the Clinical Manager and other healthcare professionals to determine the full extent of injuries and complications, addressing concerns regarding inaccurate data or data sources.
  3. Service Excellence
    1. Role model YNHHS Standards of Professional Behavior, creating a great first impression by demonstrating exemplary customer service skills for all customer service groups, including physicians, staff, and department support personnel.
    2. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support a unified team in the care of the trauma patient.

    1. Maintains a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the Trauma Department and its programs.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five to seven years experience in Critical Care and/or Emergency Nursing.
  • Three to five years experience working with complex system issues such as triage or program development.

Licensure: Registered nurse with current license in the State of Connecticut.

Special Skills:

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and organizational skills.
  • Excellent clinical judgment.
  • Excellent knowledge of personal computers and related software.
  • Adaptability to a wide variety of professional interactions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the use of medical records for data abstraction.
