Job summary

HCA Florida Kendall Hospital is seeking an RN Trauma OR for night shifts to support high-acuity surgical cases and patient care in a fast-paced environment. This role emphasizes collaboration with surgeons, nurses, and staff to optimize outcomes and patient experience.

Responsibilities include preparing supplies, maintaining sterile technique, and assisting in procedures. A CST or equivalent program, BLS, and 1 year of OR experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • CST certification preferred.
  • Completion of Accredited Surgical Scrub Technician Program or scrub tech experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Minimum of one year of surgery experience preferred.
  • Skilled in all surgical service lines: General, Robotics, Ortho, Neuro, Vascular, Urology, Gynecology, and ENT.
  • 1 year minimum RN experience in the OR in Acute Care Setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Prepares sterile instrument table and gathers equipment after procedure for cleaning and sterilization.
  • Counts sponges, sharps, and instruments; reports discrepancies to nurse or surgeon.
  • Positions patient for type of surgery.
  • Prepares patient skin for surgery per hospital standards.
  • Provides comfort and support pre-operative patients.
  • Transports patients to and from surgical suite.
  • Assists the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
  • Cleans and prepares room between procedures; restocks supplies and organizes for end of case cleanup.
  • Maintains a safe work area.
  • Follows Code of Conduct and Mission and Value Statement.
  • Maintains aseptic technique and handles specimens with physician.
  • Obtains supplies and equipment including non-narcotic meds per case.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
Operating Room Scrub Technician Certification (CST) Preferred
Accredited Surgical Scrub Technician Program or scrub tech experience
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Operating Room Technician demonstrates knowledge of surgical instruments and principals of sterile technique. The Operating Room Technician anticipates the needs of the surgical suite within the scope of the position’s competencies with the use of critical thinking. The Operating Room Technician adheres to hospital policies and procedure, is supervised by the Registered Nurse, and collaborates with the surgical team to improve customer satisfaction. The Operating Room Technician is a supportive role and will be implemented, as the needs of the department require.

Responsibilities
  • Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
  • Prepares sterile instrument table as well as gathering equipment after procedure for cleaning and sterilization.
  • Accurately completes all sponge, sharp, and instrument counts and reports all discrepancies to the nurse or surgeon.
  • Positions patient accordingly to type of surgery.
  • Prepares patient skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Provides comfort and support pre-operative patients.
  • Transports patients to and from surgical suite.
  • Assists the surgical team in surgical procedures which may include passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
  • Cleans and prepares room between procedures and after last case; restocks supplies when necessary and organizes effectively for end of case clean up.
  • Maintains a safe work area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”
Specialty-Specific Responsibilities
  • Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • Properly handles specimens: Identifies specimen appropriately with the physician – maintains specimens during the procedure and checks with surgeon prior to passing off field.
  • Obtains specific supplies, non-narcotic medications and equipment: Checks preference cards prior to case and makes arrangements to obtain special supplies.
