Work Shift:

Capital Health Medical Group is made up of more than 250 physicians and other providers who offer primary and specialty care, as well as hospital-based services, to patients throughout the region.

Position Overview:

  • Promotes staff development through utilization of appropriate learning resources. Serves as preceptor to mentor and develop nursing employees over time. Functions according to Capital Health (CH) guidelines and prepares staff for specific roles in the event of fire, disaster and cardiac codes.
  • Assists the staff with surgical case preparation, implements set-up plans and delivers or provides patient teaching where indicated.
  • Demonstrates correct and safe technique in the use of the equipment according to the specific product information and CH policies and procedures. Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment.
  • Ensures required Nursing personnel records are maintained by the Educator with regard to education requirements, yearly appraisals and disciplinary actions.
  • Participates with the Nurse Manager in the hiring process. Has input into the monthly time schedules allocating resources efficiently. Inputs schedule in a timely manner.
  • Promotes the professional involvement of nursing through community activities (hospital committees, civic organization, parish nursing, volunteerism, etc.). Promotes patient/family education. Attends all mandatory department in-services as recommended by regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures that the physician preference cards are updated in a timely fashion and maintained in the OR database. Ensures new surgeon preference cards are entered into the system prior to the start of the surgeon's first scheduled surgery and are updated in a timely fashion.
  • Provides for ongoing collegial atmosphere allowing both an upward and downward flow of communication in the Nursing Department through the implementation of staff meetings by the nursing leadership and general staff meetings by others.
  • Delegates and prioritizes work assignments in relation to the individual associate’s competencies.
  • Ensures delivery of safe, therapeutic care for patients. Performs patient care as necessary and assists in all emergency situations. Supervises the prompt and accurate implementation of physician’s orders/communications. Ensures that adverse reactions or changes in condition are reported to the surgeon.
  • Coordinates and integrates services within the department and with other departments. Maintains visibility and accessibility with all internal and external customers. Makes walking rounds. Provides clinical coverage if necessary or indicated.
  • Collaborates with leadership to ensure that the department is on budget. Justifies any budget variances that may occur to the OR Manager and/or Director. Demonstrates cost-conscious attitude in requesting the purchase of departmental equipment and supplies.
