Position Details
Position: Full‑time RN on the inpatient surgical unit (general and orthopedic surgery). Schedule: Three 12‑hour night shifts each week. This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement and there may be more than one opening on this posting.
Job Summary
Provides professional nursing direct patient care in compliance with professional practice and unit standards. Promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach toward patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.
Essential Functions
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.
- Document patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
- Direct and delegate care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.
- Ensure own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
- Participate in the development of and maintain established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience; acute‑care nursing experience preferred.
Credentials
- Required: Washington State RN license.
- Required: Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
Skills
- Knowledge of age‑specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
- Ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and a patient/family centered work environment.
- Ability to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures.
- Basic computer skills.
Working Conditions
Lifting
- Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment.
- Fine motor skills to control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
- Push/Pull: frequently up to 45 lbs. force.
- Hands‑on CPR at least 20 mins using 100‑125 lbs. of force; frequency seldom or occasionally.
- Mobility: frequent sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, and moving around the area.
- Non‑patient lifting up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
- Tasks in a noisy environment.
Mental/Visual
- Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

- Wage range: $52.15 – $77.39, dependent on education, training, experience and applicable collective bargaining agreement.
