Job summary

Citizens Medical Center seeks an RN Surgery Staff to provide direct care for surgical patients, emphasizing the intra-operative period and pre/post-operative assessment. The role requires active involvement in safety and infection control, IV starts, medications, and collaboration with anesthesia staff.

Preferred candidates have OR experience and current Texas RN licensure; this full-time position includes rotating call and wide-ranging responsibilities across the surgical suite.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• At least six (6) months of operating room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to surgical patients with emphasis on intra-operative period and pre/post-operative assessment.
• Perform, supervise, and/or direct nursing care of the patient as circulating nurse.
• Assist with cleaning, sterilization, and storage of instruments and supplies.
• Administer medications, start IV infusions, and assist anesthesia as needed.
• Assist with orientation of new personnel and take call on rotating basis.

Provides direct care to surgical patients with primary emphasis on the intra-operative period and responsibility for pre-operative assessment and post-operative evaluation while applying age-specific needs in the assessment, treatment, and/or care of patients. Possesses substantial knowledge, judgment, and skill based upon the principles of the biological, psychological, behavioral, and social sciences. Must take call on a rotating basis.

Job Specific:

• Participates in the safety management and infection control programs (EF).
• Performs, supervises, and/or directs the nursing care of the patient by performing the duties of the circulating nurse based upon hospital policies / procedures and the AORN Standards (EF).
• Directs and/or assists, as necessary, with the cleaning, sterilization, and storage of instruments, equipment and supplies (EF).
• Administers medications, starts intravenous infusions, and assists anesthesia personnel as needed (EF).
• Assists with the orientation of new personnel (EF). li
• Takes call as assigned (EF).

Hospital:

• Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures.
• Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
• Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines.
• Performs withinprofessional Scope of Practice at all times.
