Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines is offering a part-time RN student program with a 12-hour day shift for students enrolled in an accredited nursing program. A $2,000 monthly stipend is provided while completing the last nine months of RN education, plus board/license fee reimbursement up to $600 and an 18-month retention requirement after licensure.

Eligibility includes being 18+, current enrollment in an RN program, and timely completion of mandated trainings such as BLS.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers certificate within six weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
• Performs activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, feeding, and basic patient care.
• Responds to patient calls and anticipates patient needs.
• Ensures patient safety and comfort through safe handling and regular rounds.
• Measures vital signs and calculates intake/output.
• Performs bedside blood glucose testing.
• Documents in patient health records per policy.
• Initiates emergency measures when needed.
• Performs post-mortem care when required.
• Sets up equipment and supplies for procedures.
• Prepares patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers.
• Discharges patients from the system.
• Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the nurse.
• Collects and labels specimens.
• Sets up and maintains equipment.
