Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:- English Language Proficiency
- In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing, accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of completion.
- OR individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Nursing, with opportunities to become registered as a nurse prior to program completion.
- Upon obtaining a State license, the individual may be appointed temporarily and later converted to a permanent appointment upon graduation.
- Foreign nursing graduates must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, with foreign education higher than an associate degree requiring degree equivalency validation.
- Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: candidates meeting education requirements but lacking licensure may be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure, with possible extensions.
Preferred Experience: BSN, 3-5 years of acute inpatient mental health experience.

Duties
- This RN Staff - Inpatient Mental Health position is located at VA White River Junction Healthcare System.
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Responsibilities include understanding inpatient MH principles, facilitating nurse-led psychoeducational groups, practicing therapeutic communication, participating in interdisciplinary rounds, maintaining safety, and documenting assessments and care plans.
- Additional duties involve maintaining professional boundaries, seeking guidance for care improvement, assuming charge nurse duties, and cross-coverage as needed.
- Work schedule includes 12-hour day/night shifts, with options for compressed/flexible scheduling. Telework is not available.
- Relocation/recruitment incentives are not authorized. EDRP eligibility is limited to new applicants.
