Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers is seeking a full-time RN Staff Educator, responsible for assisting in the training of newly hired team members and developing existing employee’s skillsets. The successful candidate for this role will assess the performance level of new employees, conduct hands-on training, and globally identify the organization's training needs. Will focus on improving employee effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity by creating and presenting training & development programs.

Competencies required by a successful outpatient healthcare RN Staff Educator include:

  • Clinical Skills: Deep understanding of common outpatient procedures, disease management, medication administration, and ability to assess and manage patient conditions in an ambulatory setting.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication to educate patients, collaborate with healthcare providers, and clearly convey information to staff during training sessions.
  • Critical Thinking: Analyze patient situations, identify potential risks, and make informed decisions based on evidence-based practices.
  • Leadership: Act as a mentor, role model, and advocate for staff, promoting professional development and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Teaching and Training Skills: Design and deliver effective training programs, adapt teaching methods to different learning styles, and assess competency of staff.
  • Adult Learning Principles: Understanding of how adults learn best to optimize the effectiveness of educational programs.
  • Quality Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in patient care, implement evidence-based practices, and monitor outcomes to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work effectively with other healthcare professionals like physicians, therapists, and social workers to coordinate patient care.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated on current clinical practices, guidelines, and healthcare regulations through continuing education and professional development activities.
  • Collaboration: the ability to effectively work with others towards a shared goal, demonstrating open communication, active listening, conflict resolution, and adaptability to different perspectives, ensuring everyone contributes meaningfully to achieve the best possible outcome as a team.

Key Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs focusing on clinical skills, policy updates, and patient safety, to ensure high quality care is delivered in the outpatient setting.

  • Needs Assessment: Identifying training needs for outpatient staff by collaborating with leaders, reviewing patient data, and analyzing current practice gaps.
  • Curriculum development: Designing educational programs tailored to specific outpatient needs, including theoretical knowledge, clinical skills, and procedural guidelines.
    • In conjunction with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), responsible for creating and maintain a training budget.
    • May be required to search for conferences and external training events that would benefit individual or small groups of employees and recommend these programs to their managers.
    • Develop and teach programs designed to enhance the skills of workers, finding creative & exciting techniques to present the information, while ensuring trainees understand.
  • Instruction delivery: Facilitating training sessions using various teaching methods such as lectures, simulations, hands-on practice, and e-learning modules.
    • Training for all clinical support staff as well as managerial and leadership training identified and executed in conjunction & collaboration with the CHRO and Chief Quality Officer (CQO).
  • Competency evaluation: Assessing staff proficiency through practical demonstrations, written tests, and clinical observations to ensure competency in key outpatient skills.
    • Creating and maintaining competency assessments for all clinical support staff positions within the organization.
  • Orientation for new staff: Providing comprehensive onboarding training for new employees joining the outpatient clinic, covering policies, procedures, and specific patient populations.
  • Continuing education: Delivering ongoing professional development opportunities to maintain staff knowledge and skills up-to-date with current practice standards.
  • Quality improvement initiatives: Integrating quality improvement concepts into staff development programs to promote patient safety and positive clinical outcomes.
  • Collaboration with leadership: Working closely with managers and other healthcare providers to identify training needs and align staff development with overall healthcare goals.
  • Workforce Development: Supporting the organization in fostering and maintaining relationships with institutions of higher education, providing educational opportunities to students, supporting pipeline efforts, and the development of staff.
    • Assisting with updating and maintaining all job descriptions with appropriate clinical guidelines and competencies.
    • Assisting the CHRO will career ladder and career lattice development.
    • Fostering and maintaining relationships with facilities of higher education in the surrounding area with programs related to healthcare such as but not limited to Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Medical Assistant programs.
    • Scheduling and tracking of all Clinical Rotations for students, volunteers, and interns within the organization.
    • Onboarding and credentialing of all students/volunteers prior to the start of their clinical rotations. Communicating with educational institutions ongoing and facilitation of Affiliation Agreements.
  • Performance feedback: Providing constructive feedback to staff regarding their performance during training and on-the-job.
    • Monitoring and assisting with ongoing performance management for clinical team members across all departments including but not limited to coaching, counseling, and mentorship.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintaining accurate records of staff training activities, competency assessments, and program evaluations.
  • Patient-centered focus: Ensuring training aligns with the unique needs of outpatient patients, including chronic disease management and self-care education.
  • Technology integration: Incorporating relevant technology skills into training programs to support electronic health records and telehealth practices.
  • Cultural competency: Addressing cultural considerations when designing and delivering training to diverse patient populations.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for Registered Nurses
  • Current licensure in the State of Pennsylvania
  • Participates in educational conferences and updates/maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of practice
  • Prior physician office experience required
  • Experience with office-based applications: EMR (EClinicalWorks preferred), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and internet use is required.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and multi-tasking techniques and be detail oriented
  • Customer-focused (patient, empathetic, responds to patient’s emotional state, patient interview is pertinent to patient’s visit); employs therapeutic communication techniques.
  • Experience as an instructor for an accredited educational program preferred
