Position Overview

This role involves coordinating the design, planning, evaluation, and integration of clinical education and professional development activities to maintain consistent standards of practice and competencies in patient care. Supports the unit leadership team by demonstrating effective leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 2 years of practice in the area OR Associate's degree in Nursing with 4 years of practice.
  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in West Virginia.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred certification in the area of specialty.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:

  1. Conduct initial and ongoing rounds, communicating with charge RNs, OR control desk, college staff, and surgeons to ensure smooth case progress.
  2. Review OR schedule at least one week in advance for case needs, including staff training, equipment, and implants.
  3. Ensure on-time starts and efficient room turnover, meeting OR benchmarks.
  4. Update surgeon preference cards and participate in capital equipment planning.
  5. Coordinate with SPD, Supply Chain, nursing, and physician offices to meet patient care needs.
  6. Monitor vendors following policies and procedures.
  7. Participate in inventory management, cost savings, and value analysis.
  8. Facilitate nursing education, orientation, staff development, and competency validation.
  9. Coordinate orientation and development for all college employees, including evaluations and performance plans.
  10. Assess and develop annual staff competencies.
  11. Provide opportunities for staff interaction regarding professional growth and concerns.
  12. Manage staffing plans and schedules based on service needs.
  13. Lead performance management and prepare for regulatory surveys.
  14. Develop standards, policies, and performance monitoring tools in collaboration with managers.
  15. Maintain clinical expertise and conduct quality audits.
  16. Promote research and evidence-based practice as a change agent.
  17. Contribute to departmental goals and professional nursing activities.
  18. Model and adhere to WVU Medicine's Standards of Behavior.
  19. Demonstrate team building, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills in a high-stress environment.
Physical Requirements

Must have strength and stamina for lifting, moving, and positioning patients and equipment over 40 lbs.

Working Environment

Work involves close collaboration, irregular hours, biohazards, infectious diseases, working near deceased individuals, water exposure, and electrical hazards.
