Responsibilities

• The school nurse substitute is a registered professional nurse certified, working in the school setting who strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children.
• Major focus of school nursing services is prevention of illness and disability and the early detection and correction of health problems.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Assist with sick children when they visit the nurse's office throughout the school day; communicate with parents and staff as needed; keep a daily log; review health records and inform school personnel of health problems; provide a comfortable and supportive learning environment for students.
• Serve as resource person to school personnel; participate selectively in classroom instruction under supervision; orient staff and teach medical procedures for evaluation and maintenance of medical involved students; participate in school functions scheduled for the day.
