Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – School Nurse

Hours: 40 hours/week

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM

Contract Duration: Approximately 8.5 months

Job Summary:

Seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) – School Nurse to provide comprehensive healthcare services to students within the Special Education Department. The RN will assess student health needs, administer medications, manage emergencies, maintain medical records, conduct health screenings, and collaborate with parents, healthcare providers, and instructional staff.

The nurse may work with students who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired and should be prepared to develop appropriate communication skills, including American Sign Language (ASL) or Braille skills as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arizona
• Evidence of completion of a physical assessment skills course
• Eligible for Arizona School Nurse Certification
• Current CPR certification
• Ability to perform physical/health assessments
• Ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, healthcare providers, and other staff
• Ability to manage student medical emergencies
• Ability to maintain accurate and confidential medical records

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years of nursing experience preferred
• Pediatric nursing experience preferred
• Urgent care nursing experience preferred
• Experience working with children with disabilities/special needs
• Knowledge of physical assessment and treatment of children ages 4–22
• Experience with injury assessment, including sports-related injuries
• Strong planning, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
• ASL skills for working with students/staff who are deaf or hard of hearing
• Braille skills for working with students who are blind/visually impaired

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and assess the healthcare needs of students
• Maintain student health records as required by the school physician and applicable Arizona laws
• Administer medications and accurately document:
• Medication name
• Dosage
• Administration
• Untoward/adverse effects
• Educate students regarding personal hygiene and overall health
• Maintain current medical records for each student
• Conduct routine health surveys and annual screenings
• Keep parents/guardians informed about student health status
• Manage student emergencies resulting from accidents, injuries, and health conditions
• Communicate student healthcare needs to teachers and instructional staff
• Coordinate healthcare-related services with appropriate school personnel
• Take sign language classes as necessary to communicate with deaf students
• Follow applicable school, state, and healthcare regulations
