Join our Southwood Psychiatric team as a Residential Treatment RN!

SHIFT - 8:00am - 8:00pm - Includes Weekend Rotation.

*This role will be located at our Canonsburg, PA Residential Treatment Program site.*

Southwood's Residential Treatment in Canonsburg, PA: The psychiatric treatment of children and adolescents with severe emotional, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disabilities is best accomplished within a comprehensive treatment program specifically designed to meet individualized needs. For this reason, Southwood Psychiatric Hospital has created an Intellectual Developmental Disability / Autism Spectrum Disorder (IDD/ASD) Residential Treatment Program. Located in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, the IDD/ASD Program provides treatment for up to 44 males between the ages of 6 and 21 years of age. The staff-to-child ratio in this program is 1:4, ensuring that each patient who takes part in this programming option has the thorough support he needs to be successful during the treatment process.

Responsibilities

REGISTERED NURSE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide and coordinate care by assessing patients’ physical and behavioral health needs.
• Develop and implement nursing care plans.
• Maintain medical records and educate patients and their families about various physical and behavioral health conditions.
• Provide nursing care and services within the standards and scope of nursing practice as defined within the state Nurse Practice Act regulations, policies, procedures, as well as facility and corporate policies.
• Ensure physicians’ orders are legible if taken verbally and transcribed appropriately per policy and procedure.
• Assess patients’ status on an ongoing basis and document pertinent information.
• Notify physicians of significant changes such as difficulties with detox, medical emergencies, or changes in medical response to medications.
• Complete initial nursing treatment plans upon admission and ensure all plans are tailored to assessed needs.
• Utilize universal precautions to provide direct patient care.
• Administer medications accurately as ordered.
• Document controlled substance medication administration properly.
• Complete admission and discharge processing efficiently and accurately.
• Maintain therapeutic rapport with patients by respecting boundaries and personal space, providing attention, and maintaining rational detachment.
• Coordinate activities of the unit as directed.
• Communicate professionally with patients, visitors, co-workers, and others involved in treatment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
• Possess a current RN license valid in the state of employment or be eligible to practice nursing per state requirements.
• At least one year of nursing experience; psychiatric, mental health, behavioral, or substance abuse experience is a plus.
• CPR, de-escalation, and restraint certifications are required (training provided upon hire).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility policies.
