Caregivers in our 3 Seidman Oncology/Palliative Unit provide medical, neurological, and telemetry care for inpatient and observation patients who have cancer, are receiving cancer treatments, or have related diagnoses.

A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00pm—7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

1. Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
2. Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
3. Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care based on acuity, patient preferences, and resource availability.
4. Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate corrective actions.
5. Seek supervision, consultation, and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
6. Document in patients’ medical records.

Minimum qualifications include:

1. Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
2. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
3. New graduate RN or less than one year of RN experience.
4. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
5. For those working in oncology units where chemotherapy is administered, obtain a cancer-specific certification or demonstrate ongoing education within the accreditation cycle.
6. Completion of ONS Chemo/Bio course within two years if employed on units where chemo is administered.

Preferred qualifications:

1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements:

• Full range of motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination.
• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
• Medium Work: exerting 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or more than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly.
