Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking an experienced RN with wound care expertise to manage patients with altered skin integrity due to wounds and to provide pre/postoperative education for ostomy patients. You will work with physicians and the nursing team to assess, plan, and perform patient care.

Required is an Alabama RN license and a nursing degree; a BSN is preferred. WCC is a plus; BLS is required or to be obtained within 30 days. Depending on the unit, ACLS/PALS may be needed.

Qualifications

• Must be graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
• Current RN license in Alabama required.
• Wound Care Certification (WCC) preferred.
• BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days.
• ACLS and/or PALS may be required depending on unit.

Job Description

To manage patients with altered skin integrity due to acute or chronic wounds. To demonstrate knowledge and expertise in pre and postoperative care and education of ileostomy, colostomy or urostomy patients and function as a consultant regarding care. To work in conjunction with physicians, nursing staff and ancillary staff to evaluate, propose, plan, and perform patient assessments and treatment.

Qualifications

Graduate of a school of Nursing program approved and accredited by the Alabama State Board of Nursing required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Wound Care Certified (WCC) designation by the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy preferred. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
