Job summary

UAB Medicine's North Tower Outpatient Surgery Center in Birmingham, Alabama, is looking for a professional perioperative nurse to deliver high-quality care in the operative setting. You will perform scrub functions, handle instruments, and perform circulating duties such as monitoring patient condition and coordinating care before, during, and after procedures.

Directly assist the operating physician with surgical tasks, prepare operating rooms and equipment, and maintain patient safety.

Qualifications

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
• Currently licensed as an RN in Alabama before hire.
• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire.

Job Description

Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures.

• Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure.
• Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure.
• Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing and wound exposure as well as patient positioning.
• Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Minimum Requirements:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing AND professional licensure at time of hire required.
