The Medical Intermediate Care Unit:
Registered Nurses in the Medical Intermediate Care Unit (MIMCU) are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a medically complex population of patients. This 20-bed multidisciplinary unit offers excellent nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 or 2:1, so you as the RN, can truly make an impact on patients and their families.Our team uses advanced technologies such as virtual ICU services, arterial line monitoring, and end-tidal CO2 monitoring to treat a variety of conditions including multi-system organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, complex hematology and oncology, gastrointestinal dysfunction, renal failure, liver failure, substance withdrawal, acid-base and electrolyte imbalances, and endocrine emergencies. In addition, the nurses in the MIMCU are trained to care for patients requiring chronic mechanical ventilation via the tracheostomy.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Staff Nurse, RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients. The nurse will establish goals and priorities of nursing care. The nurse will develop a written plan of nursing care which includes patient education and discharge planning. The staff nurse will be responsible for documentation of care given with patient progress. The RN will work collaboratively with the medical staff in matters of patient care.
