Compensation :

Pay Range: $28.38 - $46.17 / hour

Multiple Shifts Available :

UAB Medicine supports work/life balance. The shifts available for this unit are:

• Full-time AM: 3 12-hour shifts per week
• Full-time PM: 3 12-hour shifts per week
• Part-time AM: 2 12- hour shifts per week
• Part-time PM: 2 12- hour shifts per week
• Full-time weekend AM and PM
• Part-time weekend AM and PM

Unit Details:

The Neurology and Neurosurgery Unit is a new name and focus for an existing unit, known as M8. This 25-bed acute care unit is for general neurology and post-surgical neurosurgery patients. It also provides specialized care for patients with neurological disorders, including epilepsy, myasthenia gravis (MG), Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), encephalopathy, and multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as patients recovering from strokes and brain or spinal surgeries. Nurses on this neuro unit have a unique opportunity to establish care on a new unit and participate in a team nursing care model that partners each nurse with one patient care technician (PCT), which allows nurses to practice at the top of their scope and provide the highest quality of care and overall patient experience. UAB Neurology and Neurosurgery is consistently ranked among the top 50 programs of its kind nationally by U.S. News & World Report, which also has ranked UAB’s program as No. 1 in Alabama. UAB is also Alabama’s first Comprehensive Stroke Center , so as soon as patients arrive, we are prepared to deliver the latest stroke treatment. Additionally, UAB has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification in Spine Surgery, demonstrating UAB Hospital’s dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards.UAB Medicine is also home to Alabama’s only Level IV Epilepsy Center , the highest designation available from the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

Job Description :

To utilize the nursing process to care and/or counsel individuals in the promotion and maintenance of health and the prevention of illness and injury. Using a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention and evaluation of human responses to actual and potential health problems through activities such as health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive and restorative of life and supportive of a peaceful death. To identify patient needs using the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Synergy Model. To delegate, coordinate and manage all aspects of nursing care provided to the patient, their family and our community in a timely and cost-effective manner. To deliver patient care in collaboration with the patient, their family and all members of the health care team and with the knowledge of a licensed physician, psychologist, podiatrist, and/or dentist.

Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
