Job description

Registered Nurse - Med Surg Float

Department: Float – Med Surg

Schedule: Full-Time, Days, 7am – 7:30pm, weekdays & every other weekend

Location: Grand Blanc, MI

General Summary:

Utilize independent professional judgment, analytical skills, and the nursing process to provide comprehensive nursing services to patients. Demonstrate clinical competence, compassion, customer service, focus on outcomes, and cost-awareness when delivering care within the framework of the Seven Dimensions of Patient Care and Benner's Domains of Nursing Practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Coordinate development of multidisciplinary care plans aligned with clinical guidelines, patient needs, and regulatory standards to optimize patient outcomes and resource use.
  2. Provide respectful, culturally sensitive patient care, including assessment, education, and discharge planning, involving patients and families.
  3. Apply pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain management techniques and collaborate with the healthcare team for continued patient care.
  4. Complete thorough assessments, including admission, shift, and risk assessments, and document all findings and interventions accurately.
  5. Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and assist with invasive procedures following established protocols.
  6. Monitor patient responses, recognize and respond to physiological changes, and manage emergencies appropriately.
  7. Ensure quality care by adhering to safety protocols, ethical standards, and promoting a safe environment.
  8. Support organizational goals through participation in quality improvement activities and mentorship of junior staff.
  9. Communicate effectively with team members, patients, and families, using standardized tools like SBAR for handoffs and updates.
  10. Maintain compliance with licensing, certification, and ongoing education requirements.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an approved RN program, current Michigan RN license, and BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Working Conditions: Typical patient care environment with exposure to communicable diseases and hazards, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
