Job summary

Fairview Health Services seeks an experienced RN Infusion nurse for the Masonic Infusion specialty within the Advanced Treatment Center at the University of Minnesota East Bank Campus.

The role involves independent nursing care, IV initiation and management, phlebotomy, medication administration, and coordination with the care team in an ambulatory oncology setting.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of nursing experience must have been in an infusion, ambulatory, or oncology setting.
  • MN RN license is required and must be active.
  • BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross is required.
  • ONS Provider Card to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • National RN certification in a relevant specialty to be obtained within 18 months of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient needs and identify expected nursing outcomes.
  • Coordinate with patient, family, and health care team in data gathering.
  • Use ongoing data collection to identify needs and risks.
  • Develop and validate outcomes in collaboration with patient and family.
  • Document data and outcomes.
  • Deliver and adjust nursing interventions per plan of care.

Job Overview

Fairview has an immediate opening for an RN at the Masonic Infusion specialty within the Advanced Treatment Center located at the Clinics and Surgery Center on the University of Minnesota East Bank Campus. Our Masonic Cancer Clinic is one of the nation’s top cancer research centers with a team of specialized doctors, nurses, researchers and health care professionals committed to providing life-saving care to people with cancer. People travel from across the country and around the world for treatments within our hospitals/clinics. Our team does high-impact work in the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer. This position is approved for a 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks) and consists of 8-hour shifts with start times between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Rotating weekend coverage is required approximately every 10-12 weeks.

This RN Infusion performs independent nursing interventions and implements prescribed plans of care. The independent nursing includes assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned patient population(s) in the ambulatory care setting. Implementing plans of care include treatment and therapy plans, and other orders as prescribed within the clinic. It includes participation in and coordination of patient care with other health care team members. The RN Infusion is responsible for performing these functions while working in collaboration with providers and care team members. The RN Infusion performs these functions in accordance with all policy, procedure, and professional practice guidelines. The RN Infusion delivers care that is sensitive to the unique needs of the ages served by the clinic. Delivery of care may include but is not limited to central (as applicable) and peripheral IV initiation and management, phlebotomy and blood draws, order management, medication administration including hazardous and antineoplastic agents, blood product and cellular therapy administration, wound care, pain management, performing and assisting with procedures, monitoring response to interventions, prompt recognition and intervention of hypersensitivity reactions, preparing and delivering patient education and assessing understanding of information, monitoring and taking vital signs, chart reviews, documentation, phone triage, coordination of care including rooming and discharging, assessing appointments, and monitoring standards of care.

  • Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
  • Validates outcomes and develops plan of care in collaboration with patient, family, and other healthcare team members.
  • Documents data and identified outcomes.
  • Implements nursing interventions based on plan of care.
  • Provides care according to the plan, and in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures and relevant nursing practice guidelines.
  • Coordinates nursing care with the appropriate measures to meet patient needs and achieve expected outcomes.
  • Initiates age and culturally appropriate measures to meet patient needs and achieve expected outcomes.
  • Collaborates, consults, or makes referrals if unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Delegates direct and indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel based on needs, condition, potential for risk/harm, complexity of the skills, predictability of outcomes, and patient flow.
Required Qualifications
  • 1 year of nursing experience
  • MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
  • Oncology Nursing Society’s ONS Provider Card within 30 Days
  • National RN certification in the relevant area of specialty within 18 months of the start date, prorated by FTE. within 1-1/2 Yrs
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years of acute care or infusion-based nursing experience
