Oklahoma Children's Hospital

The Oklahoma Children's Hospital Cardiac Operating Room is a highly specialized, close-knit unit with 7 Registered Nurses and 2 Scrub Nurses. As the only congenital cardiac surgery provider in Oklahoma, we are a high-volume center with nationally ranked outcomes. Our team, led by Dr. Harold Burkhart, performs numerous life-changing surgeries for congenital and adult cardiac patients, including procedures in our 2 cardiac operating rooms, state-of-the-art Hybrid Cath Lab, and a 25-bed cardiac ICU. Our recent UNOS approval for VAD and transplant programs has expanded our capabilities. We prioritize work-life balance and a family-oriented environment.

General Description

A OU Health RN I provides high-quality care under supervision, modeling core values of putting Patients First, Pursuing Excellence, Integrity, Inclusion, Learning, and Teamwork. The RN I is a novice or advanced beginner, relying on rules and beginning to formulate principles based on experience.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain professional standards.
  • Manage assigned patient(s), document responses, and assist physicians.
  • Monitor physiological data, administer medications, and regulate IV infusions.
  • Deliver safe, competent patient care and address patient and family needs.
  • Seek mentorship, maintain certifications, and develop professional goals.
  • Foster an inclusive environment, delegate tasks as needed, and perform other duties.
Minimum Qualifications (RN I)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • 0-3 years of patient care experience.
  • Current RN license (Oklahoma or multistate eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support certification from AHA.
Minimum Qualifications (RN II)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • 3-5 years of patient care experience.
  • Current RN license and BLS certification.
Minimum Qualifications (RN III)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years of patient care experience.
  • Current RN license, BLS, and preferred specialty certifications.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practices, and procedures.
  • Organizational and communication skills, cultural competence, and proficiency with computer applications.
  • Ability to advocate for patients, manage conflicts, and ensure compliance with standards.
