Qualifications

  • RN I: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, 0-3 years of experience.
  • RN II: Same education, 3-5 years of experience.
  • RN III: Bachelor's Degree, over 5 years of experience, specialty certifications preferred.

Shift Available: Part-Time, 7a - 7p or 7p - 7a

In our Medicine Specialty Unit

You have the opportunity to gain a higher level of nursing in the same unit with the same team and leadership by working with both Step Down and Medical beds. This unit is part of the largest service line within the hospital system, seeking motivated, compassionate, and disciplined nurses who thrive in a stimulating, learning environment and work well with a team. The Medicine Specialty Unit handles complex and varied patients with multifaceted disease processes.

General Description

An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing high-quality care to patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. They embody the OU Health Way, reflecting core values such as putting Patients First, pursuing Relentless Excellence, showing Integrity, fostering Inclusion, continuous Learning, and valuing Teamwork.

RN I is a novice or advanced beginner progressing towards competent practice, relying initially on rules and gaining experience to formulate principles.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing standards.
  • Manage assigned patient(s), document responses and treatments, and note all changes in physician orders.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and minor procedures.
  • Monitor physiological data, observe patient conditions, and intervene as necessary.
  • Administer medications and initiate, regulate, and monitor IV infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver safe and competent patient care.
  • Address patient complaints timely and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Educate patients and families about procedures and care plans.
  • Make appropriate referrals and seek mentorship for professional growth.
  • Develop career and performance goals aligned with organizational metrics.
  • Promote an inclusive workforce valuing diversity.
  • Delegate tasks as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

RN I:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • 0-3 years of patient care experience.
  • Current RN License (Oklahoma State Board or multistate eNLC).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification upon hire.

RN II:

  • Same educational requirements.
  • 3-5 years of patient care experience.

RN III:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Master's preferred.
  • Over 5 years of experience.
  • Specialty certifications preferred.
