Qualifications

RN - Registered Nurse - Medicine Specialty Unit

Shift: Full-Time, 7A-7P or 7P-7A
OU Medical Center - Oklahoma City, OK

As a Registered Nurse in the Adult Medicine Specialty Unit at OU Medical Center, you will care for patients with complex and varied disease processes. Our unit includes the Intermediate Care Unit, allowing you to employ a wide range of nursing skills in collaboration with pulmonary, medical, surgical, and glycemic care teams.

General Description:

An OU Health RN I works under general supervision, providing high-quality care to patients with a range of health problems. They embody OU Health's core values of Patients First, Relentless Excellence, Integrity, Inclusion, Learning, and Teamwork.

RN I is suitable for nurses who are novice or advanced beginners progressing towards competence, relying on rules and developing principles based on experience.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain professional standards.
  • Manage assigned patient(s) and document responses to interventions and treatments.
  • Assist physicians and perform diagnostic procedures as needed.
  • Monitor physiological data, observe patient conditions, and intervene appropriately.
  • Administer medications and blood products safely.
  • Provide safe and competent patient care.
  • Handle patient complaints and communicate care plans effectively.
  • Refer patients to appropriate personnel and foster professional growth.
  • Develop career and performance goals aligned with organizational metrics.
  • Promote an inclusive workforce and delegate tasks as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
RN I:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience: 0-3 years in patient care.

License: Current RN license (Oklahoma or multistate eNLC).

Certification: BLS certification required upon hire.

RN II:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience: 3-5 years in patient care.

License & Certification: Same as RN I.

RN III:

Education: Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred.

Experience: 5+ years in patient care.

License & Certification: Same as RN I, with optional specialty certifications.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practices.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and evaluate nursing services.
  • Strong communication skills and cultural competence.
  • Proficiency in computer applications for quality and safety.
  • Ability to advocate for patients and manage conflicts constructively.
  • Compliance with regulatory standards and fostering diversity.
