Job summary

CompassionCare Hospice in Carson City, NV is seeking an On-Call Registered Nurse to provide compassionate after-hours hospice care in the home or appropriate setting.

You will deliver hands-on patient care, assess symptoms, and support families while collaborating with the care team. Nevada RN licensure and 1+ year of nursing experience are required; 3+ years preferred. A valid driver's license is necessary.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current RN licensure in Nevada.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience; 3+ years preferred.
• Experience in hospice or similar setting preferred.
• Knowledge of hospice philosophy and patient-centered care.
• Must have a valid driver's license and insured vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on care to hospice patients during after-hours on an on-call basis.
• Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately.
• Administer medications or adjust care per hospice protocols.
• Communicate changes in condition to the physician and obtain orders.
• Offer guidance to patients and families in understanding the condition and next steps.
• Pronounce death during on-call hours if required and complete timely documentation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver hands‑on care to hospice patients and offer supportive services to their families during after‑hours, on an on‑call basis
• Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately
• Administer medication or adjust care based on hospice protocols or provider orders
• Communicate with the physician regarding changes in condition and obtain orders as necessary
• Offer guidance and support to the patient and family in understanding the current condition and anticipating the next steps
• If a death occurs during on‑call hours, the RN will go to the home or facility to pronounce death, provide support to the family, contact the funeral home, and notify the hospice team
• Complete timely documentation and communication

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current licensure to practice in state of operation
• One year nursing experience required, 3+ years preferred
• Experience in hospice or a similar setting preferred
• Knowledge of the hospice philosophy of care
• Commitment to clinical and documentation excellence
• Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order
