Position Title: RN – Registered Nurse (Float Pool Levels II and III) – Adult Services Department: Float Pool Job Description:

Float Pool offers a unique opportunity to RNs, who are looking to practice in multiple skill sets. Each shift can look different as employees will help serve units in need. SEA Core/Float Pool supports three different skill sets: Critical Care (ICU, ED, PACU), Medical (Med Surg, Step Down), and Procedural (Endoscopy, Cath Lab, Interventional, Radiology, Pre-Op). Level of expertise and skill sets will determine what units an RN will float to.

General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) Float Pool II and RN Float Pool III works under general supervision, providing the highest quality of care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain certifications and competencies for all care areas supported in Float Pool Position.
  2. Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.
  3. Assume responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
  4. Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
  5. Assist physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
  6. Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervene when necessary.
  7. Administer medication as prescribed.
  8. Initiate, regulate and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
  9. Deliver patient care safely and competently.
  10. Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  11. Inform patient and family of hospital procedures and share care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.
  12. Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  13. Foster a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure in order to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.
  14. Develop a professional career plan and establish personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise-wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership.
  15. Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health’s winning aspiration.
  16. Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

*Minimum Qualifications – RN Float Pool II:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience: 3-5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse. Patient care experience must be obtained in the care area applied for.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:

  • Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.

*Minimum Qualifications – RN Float Pool III:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience: 5+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse. Patient care experience must be obtained in the care area applied for.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:

  • Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.

  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
