Job summary

Geisinger in Scranton seeks an Endoscopy Registered Nurse to provide primary nursing support to physicians and patients, educate patients, and ensure adherence to treatment plans.

This full-time role covers Pre OP, Post OP, circulator, tech and scope processing; requires Endoscopy experience and ACLS within 6 months; rotating shifts.

The team emphasizes teamwork and patient safety while delivering comprehensive care in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing in the state.
• Endoscopy experience strongly preferred.
• ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Triage patient needs and assist physician with examinations.
• Document medical history, vital signs, and prepare patients.
• Assist in procedures and facilitate accurate diagnosis.
• Administer medications and monitor IVs as directed.
• Educate patients on medications and treatment plans.
• Maintain sterilization and readiness of procedure rooms.

Job description

The Endoscopy RN provides primary nursing support to the physician and patient to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition. Provides patient education, promotes an understanding of the condition and adheres with the treatment plan. The Registered Clinic Nurse, functions in the spirit of teamwork, is accountable for the delivery of care utilizing skills learned in the clinic. Assists other team members on the unit.

This union role is full-time, 40 hours weekly;8-hour shifts; rotating start times between 6:30a.m., 7:00 a.m., and 8:00 a.m.; potential for every other Sunday, plus on-call rotation, which will be discussed during the interview.

This role will cover Pre OP, Post OP, circulator, tech and scope processing.

Endoscopy experience is strongly preferred. ACLS certification will be required within 6 months of hire.

Job Duties:

• Triages patient sick calls to facilitate appropriate treatment plan with providers.
• Obtains and documents patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and provides basic medical data base for provider, and prepares patient for examinations.
• Oversees chart checks insuring that all patient completed testing is available for provider visit.
• Assists providers in procedures as directed by provider to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment.
• Collects and prepares laboratory specimens and completes associated paperwork to expedites laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
• Executes and documents ongoing patient communication.
• Provides instruction to ensure patient's understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.
• Inserts, monitors, regulates and discontinues IV's as required by provider.
• Administers medications, IV push medications, and topical medications.
• Routinely inspects and observes condition and operations of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify need for preventative and corrective maintenance.
• May clean, sterilize and prepare instruments, according to established protocols, to ensure required level of aseposis and adequate availability.
• Cleans and sets up procedure rooms between cases, ensures required level of aseposis, availability of appropriate instruments and equipment, and preparation of patient.
• Educate patients on all aspects of medication and treatments as appropriate.
• Assists in all aspects of day to day clinic activity.
