Job Overview
The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to focus on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as a means to help manage the clinical situation.
The medical-surgical unit focuses on general med/surg patients. Many of our patients have non-surgical abdominal pain. We also receive patients from surgery of less complicated cases and medical-surgical overflow. This is a fast-paced unit with lots to offer! We are a unit that values teamwork above all.
Responsibilities
- Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients, consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
- Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
- Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols; monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
- Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers; identify issues and resources.

- Read and interpret patient charts.
- Ensure patient safety through adherence to guidelines.
Education/Skills
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred. 1 year of relevant nursing experience preferred. BLS certification required. RN license in the state of employment required.
