Position Summary
At Baptist Health Shelby Hospital, the registered nurse administers patient care in an inpatient or observation setting, providing active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post-intervention assessments.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Assess patients' needs and develop or revise individualized care plans based on their responses. Evaluate their progress toward expected outcomes.
- Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with team members and patients.
- Act as a patient and family advocate.
- Provide age-appropriate care, demonstrating knowledge and skills relevant to the patient population served.
- Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, educator, or nurse clinician as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to plan and manage patient care.
- Model professional behavior and support hospital and nursing department goals.
- Apply principles of growth and development, assessing patient data to identify age-specific needs.
- Coordinate care and delegate tasks appropriately to team members.
- Document patient care accurately and in compliance with standards, including assessments, education, medication administration, and safety measures.
- Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and equipment use specific to the unit.
- Prioritize patient care based on evidence-based standards.
- Identify and resolve problems effectively.
- Delegate tasks to team members according to patient needs and staff capabilities.
- Communicate patient condition and unit concerns clearly to the team.
- Provide compassionate and therapeutic care environments for patients and families.
- Be aware of legal issues and patients' rights.
- Collaborate with education and leadership teams to support new staff and students.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with policies and legal standards.
- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

- Participate or lead in nursing practice and performance improvement committees.

Qualifications
Education/Training
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Meet all competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific department.
Licensure/Certification
- Maintain current Alabama RN license or valid multistate eNLC license.
- Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC certifications required for certain areas; NRP specifically for NICU.
