Job summary

Bristol Hospice is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) in Tulsa, OK to join our hospice care team. The role emphasizes thorough patient and family assessments, comprehensive physical exams, and clinical nursing care using the nursing process.

You’ll collaborate with the physician, update plans of care, and educate families on self-care. Requirements include at least 1 year of acute care experience, state licensure, and flexibility in hours.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of acute care experience in an institutional setting.
  • One year of home care experience is preferred.
  • Must hold current licensure to practice in the state.
  • Understand hospice philosophy and care for terminally ill patients.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients and families to determine hospice needs.
  • Provide complete physical assessments and histories.
  • Deliver professional nursing care using the nursing process.
  • Develop and revise care plans; record pain and symptom changes.
  • Communicate with physicians and obtain orders as required.
  • Educate patients and families on self-care techniques.

Qualifications: On an Average Day You Will

Includes, but not limited to

  • Complete an initial, comprehensive and ongoing comprehensive assessment of patient and family to determine hospice needs
  • Provide a complete physical assessment and history of current and previous illness(es)
  • Provide professional nursing care by utilizing all elements of the nursing process
  • Assess and evaluate patient's status by:
    • Writing and initiating plan of care
    • Regularly re-evaluating patient and family/caregiver needs
    • Participating in revising the plan of care, as necessary
  • Initiate the plan of care and make necessary revisions as patient status and needs change
  • Use health assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis
  • Develop a care plan that establishes goals, based on nursing diagnosis
  • Include the patient and the family in the planning process
  • Record pain/symptom management and changes/outcomes as appropriate
  • Communicate with the physician regarding the patient’s needs and report changes in the patient’s condition; obtain/receive physicians' orders, as required
  • Teach the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques, as appropriate
  • Work in concert with the interdisciplinary group
  • All other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Must have at least one (1) year of acute care experience in an institutional setting
  • One (1) year of experience in home care preferred
  • Must have a current licensure in the state
  • Must understand the philosophy of hospice concept and understand needs of the terminally ill
  • Must be flexible in work hours
  • Must demonstrate nursing skills per competency checklist
  • Must demonstrate a willingness to maintain comprehensive working knowledge regarding information systems and applicable software programs
  • Ability to travel throughout the Bristol Hospice Service Area
