Job summary

Summa Health's Radiology unit in Akron is seeking an RN - Radiology for a 20-hour-per-week position, Monday–Friday with on-call weekend/holiday requirements. The role supports exams, patient care, and coordination within the Interdisciplinary Care Model.

The nurse will monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, administer medications, educate patients and families, and collaborate with the radiology team to maintain safety and quality of care.

Qualifications

  • ADN required; BSN preferred
  • Current Ohio RN license; BLS certification; ACLS recommended
  • CCNE/ACEN-accredited nursing program background preferred
  • Two years of relevant clinical experience in radiology-related areas preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate nursing care for radiology patients
  • Assist with imaging exams, procedures, and treatments
  • Administer medications as ordered and monitor patient status
  • Educate patients and families and liaise with the care team

20 hours per week / Monday - Friday / 7:30am - 5:00pm / On-call requirements including weekend and holiday on-call

Summary

Guided by the knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho-social sciences assumes responsibility through nursing process. Provides and coordinates nursing care of patients within the Radiology Department with the goal of attaining, maintaining, and restoring optimum health. Assists with exams, procedures, and treatment. Administers medications when ordered. Monitors condition and status of patient before, during, and after procedures. Provides patient education and acts as liaison for patients and their families using the Interdisciplinary Care Model.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) required, BSN preferred
  • Graduate of a program of professional nursing that is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
  • Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
  • BLS certified
  • ACLS certification
Experience & Training
  • Two (2) years relevant clinical experience for the following relevant areas: nuclear medicine-critical care nursing, radiation therapy-oncology, Special procedures-surgical, ER, ICU, CCU, Cath Lab, SCVICU, or other applicable experience preferred
  • Competent in administration of moderate to conscious sedation preferred

Level of Physical Demands
  • Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking, while wearing a protective lead apron, for extended periods of time. Ability to perform work that requires standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds, and wearing a lead apron.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment.
