Job summary

Endocrine News in Elmhurst, IL seeks a part-time Registered Nurse for the Pulmonary Medicine Unit with a high-acuity patient population. The role offers night shift coverage from 7pm to 7am, with every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation.

Responsibilities include care planning, patient assessments, and family communication to optimize outcomes. Required credentials include an active Illinois nursing license and ACLS/BLS certifications; a Bachelor’s in Nursing within five years is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Active Illinois State Nursing License required.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required or in process.
  • RN with embedded scope in pulmonary/acute care settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a care plan with interventions to reach expected outcomes.
  • Assess patients and collect health data from patient, family and team.
  • Communicate plan and progress to patient, family and physicians.
  • Provide patient teaching tailored to learning needs and culture.
  • Support education of peers and students; participate in professional activities.
  • Perform wound/ostomy/skin care rounds if skilled and oversee care.
  • Comply with HIPAA and assist in patient transport as needed.

Hourly Pay Range

$36.00 - $55.80 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights
  • Position: Registered Nurse - Pulmonary Medicine Unit - higher acuity patient population
  • Location: Elmhurst, IL
  • Part-Time: 24hr a week
  • Hours: 7pm-7am with every 3rd weekend and holiday track
Responsibilities
  • Develop a plan of care that identifies interventions to achieve expected outcomes. Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes, systematically revise diagnosis, interventions, and expected outcomes as needed.
  • Provide patient assessment and collect health data involving patient, family and other health care providers.
  • Communicate plan of care to patient and family regularly respecting patient wishes through acknowledgment of patient/family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes. Communicate patient data to physician and interdisciplinary team as indicated to achieve patient care needs. Document patient health data, interventions and communications.
  • Individualize patient and family teaching based on a thorough assessment to meet their specific learning needs. Assess patient cultural background, learning style, learning barriers, and modify teaching plan accordingly. Provide teaching on disease management strategies, emergency care and drug information when appropriate. Identify community resources to support patient self-management of disease.
  • Interact with and contribute to professional development of peers, students and other health care providers as colleagues. Share knowledge, provide feedback and contribute to an environment supportive of clinical education. Assign or delegate tasks as needed.
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing psychological support
  • Provide assistance to technical staff with injection of contrast, venipuncture, and administration of drugs, oxygen therapy, and IV management
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and nursing research. Keep abreast of research and practice trends in wound/ostomy/skin care through participation in professional networking, ongoing education, and self-directed learning activities. Support staff in using research and providing evidence-based care
  • If skilled, conduct daily rounds of wound/ostomy/skin care patients. Monitor effectiveness of wound/ostomy treatment plans and other aspects of wound/ostomy/skin care
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist in the transporting of acutely ill patients as needed.
Required Education, License and/or Certification, Skills and/or Experience
  • Associate Degree or higher in Nursing
    • If Associate Degree in Nursing is the highest degree held, must graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date (effective September 1, 2021)
    • Current incumbents with an RN Diploma are grandfathered
  • RN Diploma Nurse if position start date is prior to September 1, 2021
  • Active Illinois State Nursing License
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (within 6 months of start date)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - National CPR Foundation (NCPRF)
  • Current CPR Certification issued by American Heart Association
Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing
  • 1 year of inpatient nursing experience (highly preferred)
