Job summary

Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a Registered Nurse to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate nursing care for diverse patient populations. The RN will collaborate with the care team and adhere to policies and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

The position is 0.4 FTE on the Day shift with no weekend rotation. The role requires MN RN licensure, BLS, ACLS within 6 months of hire, and 1 year of procedural experience, including IV placement and anesthesia-related care.

Job Overview

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate.

Schedule: This position will be working 0.4 FTE (32 hours every two weeks) on the Day shift. The shift length is 8 hours and no weekend rotation.

Responsibilities:

• Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
• Collaborates with patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care
• Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
• Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.
• Collaborates and communicates effectively and respectfully with the patient, family and members of the health care team within and across care settings to promote partnership-based health care
• Demonstrates the ability to advance care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes.
• Promotes a culture of evidence based practice (EBP)

Additional Job Requirements:

• Processes within the ECT Department; assessment prior to procedure, IV placement, recovering patient from general anesthesia, and discharge from the procedural department.
• Uses the nursing process to provide care to patients undergoing ECT procedure and receiving general anesthesia.
• Identifies and responds to subtle or rapid changes in patient status and anticipates potential events or complications.
• Initiates timely interventions to prevent, correct, or minimize risk to the patient.
• Demonstrates ability to perform in a code blue and a behavioral emergency response situation following guidelines.
• Demonstrates ability to safely and accurately operate unit equipment.
• Is competent in placing IV access lines, independently.
• Is competent in assessment and accessing all types of VAD sites.

Required Qualifications:

• MN Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)
• 1 year current procedural experience; preferably working with patients who are receiving general anesthesia
• 1 year current Behavioral Health experience in a capacity including frequent interaction and an understanding of psychiatric diagnosis and interventions
• Is competent in placing IV access lines, independently, within 30 days of hire.

Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire and then maintained.
