Responsibilities include observing, assessing, and recording symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients.
Perform nursing rounds and take vital signs regularly.
Prepare and administer prescribed medications and ordered treatment plans.
Monitor patients under restraint on a timely basis and provide immediate medical attention during emergencies.
Administer first aid and arrange for transportation to a hospital emergency room when necessary.
Counsel patients regarding the need for medical referrals.
Participate in staff development and education.
Review care plans written by staff and train or orient new employees.
In a corrections medical environment, the nurse is responsible for the health care of bedridden patients.
