Description:The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care.This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider orders, dispensing medications, and assisting with examinations and treatments.The RN applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care and treatment of inmates/residents.Perform all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure.Attend sick calls with the physician to see inmates/residents.Prepare examining rooms and equipment.Operate pill calls, dispense medication, and document as required by applicable policies.Call Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders or emergencies.Examine and assess new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries.Refer inmates/residents to appropriate healthcare facilities as required.Perform emergency procedures as needed and notify Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders.Assist in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel.Monitor inmate/resident inpatient hospitalizations for early releases when appropriate.Provide guidance and supervision to nursing staff.Maintain good working relationships with facility staff and contract providers.Utilize established corporate policies in decision-making while using sound independent judgment.Regularly evaluate the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.Maintain security and confidentiality of all medical records.Assist with the review of medical files to ensure documentation of all provided services.Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.Audit pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed.Comply with applicable pharmacy laws, especially regarding controlled substances.Observe and record inmate/resident behavior.Inspect the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband.Provide health counseling and education as required.Assist in preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs in a timely manner.Read, analyze, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures and governmental regulations.Review and respond to lawsuits as necessary.Facilitate accreditation of the medical program by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required.Take appropriate actions in cases of serious incidents and emergencies.
