Job description

Description

  • Provides professional nursing care for patients on assigned nursing units, in accordance with established statutes, standards and practices.
  • Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.
  • Utilizes all resources in the initial assessment of patient needs, including biophysical, psychosocial, cultural, environmental, discharge planning, self-care, and education.
  • Performs a reassessment each shift, upon transfer or discharge, and more frequently as necessary.
  • Practices universal precautions, infection control, and isolation procedures. Maintains accurate and concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and patient responses.
  • Participates in discharge planning; upon discharge ensures that a written teaching/discharge plan has been developed for assigned patients, including disease process, complications, medications, diet, physical activity, and self-care needs.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the role of all health care providers to appropriately meet the needs of the patient.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make effective nursing judgements in routine and emergency situations.
  • Other roles and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed and current registration in the state of Illinois.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Clinical experience preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to initiate a nursing plan of care and identify appropriate nursing interventions and evaluations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Nursing Process and strong nursing practice skills, including physical assessment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical and technical skills specific to the assigned department

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is of medium to heavy demand.
  • Routine lifting requirements of a minimum of more than 50 pounds.
  • Stands and walks for most of the shift.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, sitting, bending, and reaching required.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases.
  • Works inside.
