RN Pre-Post Op Outpatient Surgery : AZURA

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Supports the Organization mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the Organization Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and Organization policy requirements.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • QUALITY: Responsible for supporting and driving organization quality standards through meeting regulatory and accrediting body requirements and the practice of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), including use of CQI tools.
  • Assists with implementation of organization quality goals and facility-specific action plans to achieve organization quality standards.
  • Accountable for outstanding quality of patient care, ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Addresses and acts on adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management.
  • Maintains integrity of medical records and other organization records.
  • Complies with data collection and auditing activities.
  • Maintains facility environmental integrity and safety.

PATIENT:

  • Obtains medical history, discusses procedure, and performs nursing assessment on the day of the procedure.
  • Provides education to patients and families regarding post-procedure vascular access care.
  • Monitors patient condition before, during, and after the procedure, especially patients with sedation or contrast media.
  • Addresses patient concerns and questions, and communicates issues to management.
  • Documents patient information accurately from admission to discharge.
  • Ensures written orders, consents, and lab work are completed and documented per policies.
  • Maintains competency with emergency procedures, initiates CPR and emergency measures as needed.
  • Administers medications and IV moderate sedation as directed, complying with regulations.
  • Assists physicians during procedures, maintaining sterile technique.
  • Supports patient workflow and performs point-of-care testing and IV insertion as ordered.

PHYSICIANS:

  • Communicates effectively with physicians as needed.
  • Participates in CQI meetings, reports on topics.
  • Assists in verifying instruments and equipment with staff and physicians.
  • Helps report adverse events internally and to state agencies.

MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:

  • Operates facility equipment safely and reports malfunctions.
  • Inspects and reports on facility systems and equipment.
  • Ensures a clean, safe environment, addressing blood spills per policies.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

  • Utilizes medication, supplies, and equipment efficiently.
  • Assists in policy development and CQI activities.
  • Manages medication inventory and documentation.
  • Maintains supply inventory, checks emergency equipment, and completes medical records accurately.
  • Participates in regulatory surveys, staff meetings, and training.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and other policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Includes desk work, patient interaction, and handling heavy lifting.
  • Requires prolonged standing, bending, and assisting with patient mobility.
  • Work environment typical of healthcare settings, with exposure to infectious materials and radiation, requiring protective gear.

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma required; higher degrees preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (R.N.).
  • Current licensure and ACLS certification required.

Experience and Skills:

  • 4-6 years' related experience preferred.
  • Experience in surgical centers, radiology, ICU, or emergency departments preferred.
  • Proficient in computer use, IV insertion, cardiac rhythm recognition, and medical software.
  • Certified in BLS & ACLS.
