Job summary

Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI, is seeking a registered nurse to plan and provide nursing care to patients according to AORN Standards of Nursing Practice and Hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities include using the nursing process, monitoring patients, educating families, documenting care, and coordinating with physicians to ensure continuity of care. Requires RI licensure, BLS and ACLS, and at least three years of relevant experience; PACU experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a minimum of three years job-related experience or equivalent is required.
  • RI State Licensure is also required.
  • Experience must include one year critical care nursing; PACU experience preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS are required.

  • Respond to emergencies and participate in quality assurance activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for a defined group of patients.
  • Monitor medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report to Nursing Supervisor and Physician or designee any patient a=care problems, changes in condition or unexpected occurrences.
  • Assess patient’s healthcare status based upon physical examination, related reports and records and consultation with appropriate personnel.
  • Identify priorities and provide immediate intervention on admission based on intraoperative report and physical assessment.
  • Educate patients/family regarding condition, treatment, discharge/transfer planning and follow up examinations if needed. Seek feedback from patients/family to evaluate understanding and document.
  • Perform a variety of nursing skills in compliance with physician orders and established Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain patient’s medical records in an orderly manner and document all care provided and significant information. , legibly, accurately and completely.
  • Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist in the orientation of new employees.
  • Provide direct patient care, including examination and treatment under an approved protocol. Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities when necessary.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in-services and/or reading journals.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities. Document issues and communicate/consult with the Nurse Manager
Requirements
