Job Description

The Perioperative Services RN Periop‑Procedural Team Coordinator supports and is expected to be proactive within their service line team/department to achieve unit and organization goals. The role involves achieving clinical and quality measures, operational efficiency, financial targets, and reducing supply and care variation through trialing and evaluation of products. Additional responsibilities include Care Team Member (CTM) retention and recruitment, employee engagement, serving as an educational resource following AORN best practices, coordinating with SPD leadership, leading Working Specialty Groups, participating in S3/RCA events, collaborating with other coordinators and charge nurses to provide staffing solutions, ensuring adequate staff competency, posting and filling vacancies, onboarding new hires, administering performance feedback, addressing disciplinary issues, and standardizing peri‑procedural operations across MUSC Health delivery settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve clinical, quality, operational, and financial objectives within the peri‑op service line.
  • Reduce supply and care variation through product evaluation and trialing.
  • Retain and recruit Care Team Members and promote employee engagement.
  • Serve as an educational resource and uphold AORN best practices.
  • Coordinate with SPD leadership to foster teamwork and safety culture.
  • Lead or co‑lead Working Specialty Groups and document outcomes in minutes.
  • Communicate WSG outcomes to the Perioperative Operations Group.
  • Participate in S3/RCA events, action planning, and audits.
  • Collaborate with coordinators, charge nurses, and SPD to provide staffing solutions.
  • Ensure staff competency regarding equipment and processes.
  • Request, post, and manage job vacancies via the FTE Request System.
  • Monitor OurDay, review listings daily, and interview candidates within 1–3 days.
  • Partner with Nursing Professional Development for new‑hire onboarding and competency training.
  • Provide constructive feedback and conduct annual performance evaluations for CTMs.
  • Address behavioral, attendance, and performance issues through the disciplinary process.
  • Work with Perioperative Leadership to standardize and systemize peri‑procedural operations.
  • Drive enhancements in workflows, productivity, quality outcomes, and operational efficiencies across MUSC Health sites.
Minimum Training and Education

Bachelor of Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing or graduation from a BSN program within four years and a minimum of three years related peri‑op nursing experience. Extensive knowledge of the unit’s patient population, healthcare trends, regional resources, and service availability. Must hold or obtain CNOR certification within 12 months of hire.

Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure from the South Carolina Board of Nursing or an applicable compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, either AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, and work indoors and outdoors in temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work in and from confined spaces, elevated areas, and kneeling positions.
  • Ability to bend, twist, squat, and perform pinching and gross motor activities with fingers and hands.
  • Ability to reach overhead and in all directions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted and handle various lifting scenarios as described.
  • Visual acuity sufficient for 20/40 vision, depth perception, color discrimination, and peripheral vision.
  • Hearing acuity with correction; ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and latex‑safe environments.
  • Physical capability to use respirators when required (selected positions).
