The RN Clinical Periop Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary Surgical Services team that ensures high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment supported by Nurse Managers and other leaders, guided by the WellStar Shared Governance Model and the WellStar Professional Practice Model, emphasizing evidence-based practice and research. All RN Clinical Nurses must be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association's Code of Ethics. They are expected to prioritize patient advocacy, adhere to system policies, and support service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence-based practice and critical thinking.
- Provide relationship-based, patient-centered care tailored to population-specific characteristics and cultural diversity.
- Partner with patients and families through effective communication methods, including bedside report and interdisciplinary rounds.
- Practice according to current clinical standards, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and respectful communication.
- Coordinate safe, quality patient care, ensuring timely documentation and a respectful clinical environment.
- Demonstrate teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting staff recruitment and retention.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives, research, and shared governance activities.
- Complete professional competency assessments and serve as preceptor or mentor to foster workforce development.
- Promote evidence-based practice and research, participating in activities like value analysis.
- Uphold healthcare policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including TJC Patient Safety Goals.
- Engage in data collection, clinical questioning, and resource utilization to improve practice.
- Proactively plan patient care across the continuum, developing protocols and supporting resource efficiency.
Minimum Education and Certification Requirements
- Diploma or Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited program.
- RN license (single state or multi-state compact) and BLS certification are required upon hire.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of direct patient care nursing experience.
