Job summary

Job description

Registered Nurse (RN)
General Purpose

The primary responsibility of the RN is to supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities of the facility during the assigned shift, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintaining the highest quality of care at all times.

Essential Duties

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in directing day‑to‑day functions and developing patient‑care policies.
  • Maintain current nursing service procedures, reference materials, and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to the Director regarding nursing operations and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate nursing services with resident and facility services, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Participate in facility surveys and review resident discharge plans.
Committee and Personnel Functions
  • Attend infection control, policy, and quality committees; provide nursing perspectives.
  • Ensure adequate staffing of licensed nurses, LPNs, and nursing assistants; maintain training and supervision standards.
  • Monitor absenteeism, dress codes, and disciplinary actions in line with state regulations.
Clinical Nursing Duties
  • Deliver direct nursing care, including medication administration, IV initiation, and specimen collection.
  • Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and document nursing care accurately.
  • Coordinate physician visits, facilitate progress note completion, and notify pertinent parties of patient status changes.
  • Authorize restraints and maintain compliance with medication control procedures.
Staff Development & Safety
  • Plan and conduct in‑service training sessions (OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, etc.).
  • Develop and enforce safety protocols, PPE usage, and fire‑safety training.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and hygiene standards in nursing areas.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a long‑term care setting.
  • Current, active RN license and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of PCC preferred; continuous education and licensure maintained.
Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in English reading, writing, and comprehension of technical procedures.
  • Mathematical ability to apply fractions, percentages, and ratios to clinical situations.
Physical Demands
  • Intermittent movement throughout the shift; ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and move 50 ft. as needed.
  • Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress.
  • Requirement for regular medical and physical examinations.
Work Environment

Work occurs in the nursing service area and office spaces, with frequent interruptions, shift work, and occasional weekend or holiday duties. Exposure to bodily fluids, chemicals, and infectious diseases is possible. Appropriate safety equipment and protocols are required.
