Job summary

Medical City Dallas is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Pediatric ICU on a seasonal basis. Provide direct patient care to critically ill pediatric patients, organize and document plans of care, and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.

Requires PALS within 6 months of start, RN license within 6 months, and BCLS within 30 days. Seasonal staff work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period, with weekend shifts and potential holiday coverage; comprehensive benefits are offered.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Perform direct patient care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act, with emphasis on the critically ill pediatric patient.

Organize, implement, modify, evaluate, document and maintain the plan of care. This plan will be individualized, family centered, and holistic.

Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Participate in PICU initiatives and process improvement.

Maintain high-quality age specific care for the neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and young adult population.

Support the mission, vision and values of the organization.

What qualifications you will need:

  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date (RN)
  • Registered Nurse must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • Associate Degree Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Must have the ability to communicate and care for the pediatric patient.
  • Apply scientific knowledge; use a variety of equipment; and perform multiple technical procedures.
  • Proactively advocate for patients and consistency educate patients/family throughout the continuum of care.
  • Utilize ability to demonstrate and apply the technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skill

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS All seasonal RNs are required to work a minimum of 72 hours per pay period during the seasonal period. Within a close geography, you may be asked to float to another facility that has an emergent staffing need. Four (4) weekend shifts are required each 4 week schedule period. During the course of the 32-week period, the employee is required to work two (2) holiday shifts (defined by Department Manager or designee). Seasonal Staff are PRN status employees and are subject to first call-off. There are no guaranteed hours by the hospital. Seasonal Staff will not be eligible for extra shift bonuses (D1/CND or D2/ECD) Registered Nurses who are in the Seasonal program will have one opportunity to pass the clinical competency evaluation. Current FT/PT & PRN employees are not eligible to join the Seasonal program for 2026--27 with the exception of RNs that participated in the Seasonal program in the previous year. Current employees of HWS are not eligible for the seasonal program. Shifts may vary based on the needs of the department.
