Position Overview

The RN Patient Flow Supervisor (PFS) is responsible for coordinating patient movement across the health system to ensure patients receive the right level of care, at the right location, at the right time. The role serves as the operational hub connecting Transfer Center, Bed Placement, Nursing Leadership, Campus Administrative Supervisors, Physicians, and Staffing Operations. This role collaborates closely with site leadership, the Transfer Center, Hospitalists, Intensivists, Virtual Admitter, and Enterprise Staffing teams to coordinate patient movement and staffing in real time. The PFS plays a key role in maintaining hospital flow, supporting clinical teams, and ensuring patients receive timely access to care.

What You Can Expect: We are hiring for 2 potions- 1 FT and 1 PT. Schedules are listed below.

  • Schedule: 0.6 FTE Part Time (48 hours per pay period). Self-Scheduling. Night shift position (1900-0730) must be flexible with days of the week; includes weekends/holidays
  • Schedule: 0.9 FTE Full Time (72 hours per pay period). Self-Scheduling. Night shift position (1900-0730) must be flexible with days of the week; includes weekends/holidays
  • Location: St. Luke's Central Plaza, Boise - Enterprise Staffing Office (ERSO) 720 E Park Blvd Boise Idaho
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Throughput Management
    • Coordinate admissions, transfers, discharges, and patient placement activities across multiple campuses.
    • Monitor system-wide bed capacity and patient demand in real time.
    • Prioritize patient placement based on clinical acuity, service line requirements, and available resources.
    • Reduce transfer delays and emergency department boarding times.
    • Partnership with Transfer Center
      • Collaborate with Transfer Center RNs and coordinators to accept and place inbound transfers.
      • Review transfer requests for appropriate level of care and destination campus.
      • Coordinate with hospitalists, intensivists, and specialty teams regarding bed assignment needs.
      • Support rapid placement decisions for time-sensitive transfers such as ICU, STEMI, stroke, trauma, and specialty patients.
    • Partnership with Bed Placement
      • Provide oversight for bed assignment activities throughout the system.
      • Balance capacity across campuses to maximize utilization.
      • Facilitate escalation when capacity constraints arise.
      • Ensure appropriate placement based on isolation requirements, specialty needs, and patient safety considerations.
    • Partnership with Campus Administrative Supervisors
      • Function as a centralized operational partner to campus house supervisors and administrative supervisors.
      • Coordinate response to high census, staffing shortages, and surge situations.
      • Support campus decision-making related to patient flow, staffing deployment, and operational priorities.
      • Maintain situational awareness of conditions across all campuses.
    • Staffing and Resource Coordination
      • Monitor staffing levels in conjunction with the Enterprise Staffing Office.
      • Assist with redistribution of staff and resources during volume surges.
      • Identify operational risks related to staffing shortages.
      • Escalate concerns to nursing and operational leadership as appropriate.
    • Operational Leadership
      • Act as an Administrative Supervisor for enterprise operations.
      • Serve as a liaison among nursing units, providers, ancillary departments, and leadership teams.
      • Lead real-time problem solving during capacity and throughput challenges.
      • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's of Nursing Degree (BSN)
  • Experience:
    • 3 years of RN experience required; may include a combination of registered nurse or nursing leadership experience preferably in patient flow, staffing and scheduling
    • Strong knowledge of hospital operations, staffing models, and patient flow processes
    • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and staffing software systems
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current RN licensure in State of Practice and Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certified through American Safety and Health Institute, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross.
