*Responsibilities*

The RN in PACU utilizes the nursing process to identify patient needs and priorities of care through assessment, planning, and delegation of care based on patient needs post-anesthesia and evaluation of the patient’s response. Is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization. This position supports the mission, vision, and philosophy of CommonSpirit Health.

• Maintain a knowledge base regarding sedation/analgesic and anesthetic agents and techniques, physiologic and physiological response to the recovering patient.
• Assess, plan, intervention for and evaluate the physical and physiological response to analgesia; able to plan for the risks and the interventions for those risks associated with the administration of sedation, analgesia, and anesthetic agents.
• Assesses patient's health and continuously monitors; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs.
• Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
• Collaborates with other care staff to assure smooth transition for patient throughout the facility using proper hand off techniques.
• Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures.
• Provides patient and family education.
• Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
• Orient and achieve competency from all areas of the Perioperative department.
• Maintains order, stock, and cleanliness of all areas of the department.
• Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies.
• Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines, policies, and procedures.
