Job summary

The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC, is seeking an OR RN to deliver direct patient care during surgical procedures within a high-acuity, multidisciplinary team. You will work in a state-of-the-art Operating Room with emphasis on safety, asepsis, and patient advocacy.

Responsibilities include circulating or scrubbing, pre-op assessments, documentation, and collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and techs.

Qualifications

• DC RN license, BLS and ACLS (AHA-certified) required.
• Minimum 1 year of OR/perioperative experience.

Operating Room Overview

Our state-of-the-art Operating Room handles over 10,000 surgical cases per year, spanning trauma, neurosurgery, orthopedics, robotics, general surgery, and open-heart procedures. With 17 modern OR suites and dedicated support teams, we provide high-acuity, high-complexity care while fostering continuous learning and professional growth.

Position Summary

As an OR RN at GW Hospital, you will deliver direct patient care during surgical procedures, ensuring a safe, sterile, and efficient environment. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary surgical team to provide outstanding care and uphold the highest standards of patient safety.

Main Tasks

• Circulate or scrub for surgical procedures across multiple specialties
• Perform pre-op assessments and intra-op monitoring
• Maintain aseptic techniques and enforce infection control policies
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical techs
• Document patient status and surgical events accurately and in real-time
• Provide emotional support to patients and families pre- and post-procedure
• Participate in staff training and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Current DC RN license (or eligible for DC licensure)
• BLS and ACLS (must be AHA-certified)
• Minimum 1 year of experience in the Operating Room or Perioperative setting

Preferred

• CNOR certification
• Experience in trauma or high-acuity surgical environments
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
