St. Joseph's Outpatient Surgery Center is a fast-paced ASC environment committed to producing the highest quality work and experience for patients and their families.

Job Summary:

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for patients of all ages in the operating room. Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to physicians, patients, family members, and personnel in other departments, as well as team members. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the Nurse Manager of the Operating Room and/or Director of Nursing, including serving on committees and participating in quality improvement audits and projects.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures.
  • Develop an individualized perioperative plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care using interventions such as protecting the patient from injury, performing count procedures, ensuring correct site and side of surgery, managing specimens, and communicating patient status.
  • Administer medications appropriately.
  • Perform interventions to maintain wound healing, tissue perfusion, and system balances.
  • Ensure patient is at or returns to normothermia postoperatively.
  • Protect the patient from infection.
  • Educate the patient and support persons about the procedure, recovery, and care.
  • Involve the patient in care decisions, protect rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Provide culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards.
  • Evaluate patient progress and transfer care as appropriate.
  • Delegate tasks as per state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions.
  • Document nursing care and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Participate in quality review, performance improvement, and performance appraisal processes.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective teamwork.
  • Maintain required competencies, attend meetings and educational sessions.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain confidentiality.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an approved nursing school.
  • Current RN license in the state.
  • CPR and advanced life support certification required.
  • At least one year of intra-operative experience required.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.
  • Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities.

USPI complies with laws regarding mandatory vaccination. If applicable, you must show proof of vaccination or obtain an exemption prior to your start date. If exempt, regular testing is required.
