Job summary

University of California - Los Angeles Health is seeking an oncology infusion nurse to provide direct patient care, administer chemotherapy and IV medications, and document patient status. You will assess patients, educate them, and provide psychosocial support in a busy Community Oncology Practice.

Required are a California RN license, BSN/MSN, BLS, and ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification, with at least two years in acute/oncology outpatient care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of acute care/oncology outpatient experience.
• Ability to screen and triage acute patients.
• Ability to recognize abnormal lab values and report to physicians.
• Skill with medical diagnostic equipment and blood tests for infusion therapy.
• Ability to follow leadership direction promptly.
• Demonstrated ability to work with patients, peers, physicians, and administrators.
• Strong listening and communication with patients and families in a high-volume setting.
• Ability to handle interruptions and changing priorities.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Description

In this role, you will provide direct nursing care, infusion therapy and documentation to patients in the Community Oncology Practice. Major functions include: patient assessment, patient evaluation and preparation and administration of chemotherapeutic agents and other intravenous drugs, patient education and psychosocial support.

Salary range: $70.59/hr - $106.80/hr

Qualifications

Required:

• Knowledge of the Oncology patient population and practice operations
• Knowledge of all aspects of infusion therapy in an oncology setting
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through for multiple patient treatments on an ongoing basis.
• Excellent blood withdrawal and IV skills
• Possession of a BSN/MSN degree
• Possession of current California RN license
• Possession of BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Possession of ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification
• Knowledge and skill in Central line Catheters
• Minimum of two years of acute care/oncology outpatient experience
• Experience to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
• Knowledge to recognize abnormal laboratory values and report to Physicians.
• Skill in usage of medical diagnostic equipment, as well as working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform necessary blood tests and provide infusion therapy.
• Ability to accept direction from leadership and act promptly.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, peers, physicians and administrators.
• Skill in listening perceptively, conveying awareness and responding to patients and visitors with health concerns using tact and discretion
• Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with patients, their families, and general public in a high volume, clinical setting
• Skill in performing with frequent interruptions an/or distractions including the ability to accept equivocal circumstances and respond to changing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, and hostility.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with sensitive and confidential information using discretion and judgment.
• Ability to push, pull or carry 30 pounds or more.

Preferred:

• Possession of OCN certification
• Possession of PICC line certification
• Working knowledge of the UCLA registration system, appointment scheduling system and order entry system
• Knowledge and ability to understand, assume responsibilities, and perform duties associated with moderate complexity laboratory testing, including quality control, calibration, proficiency testing, as well as review and approve test results prior to release.
