Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Nursing Manager to direct operations of the Trauma Recovery Unit (TRU), a 20-bed acute care unit on the UAB Hospital campus in Alabama. You will oversee staffing, quality care, and budget planning, ensuring 24/7 unit coverage and strong communication with patients and families.

The role requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a Master s in Nursing or related field and at least two years of related experience; leadership experience is preferred and current RN

• Bachelor s degree in Nursing with Masters in Nursing or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required.
• Prior Leadership experience preferred.
• Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Responsibilities

• Direct operations of inpatient nursing unit(s) with scope score 20–29 as defined in the plan.
• Ensure quality patient care and manage staff, including scheduling and development.
• Interview and hire qualified candidates; orient and evaluate staff; promote, discipline, and terminate as needed.
• Develop annual budget and plan capital equipment and personnel resources; oversee 24/7 unit coverage.

The Trauma Recovery Unit (TRU) is a 20-bed acute care unit that provides specialized care for a variety of trauma, orthopaedic, and general surgery patients. UAB Hospital is Alabama’s first American College of Surgeons (ACS)-verified adult Level I Trauma Center. This unit is led by advanced practice providers (APPs), which means a provider is always available for our trauma patients. As part of the TRU team, you’ll enjoy working with an interdisciplinary care team, providing patient- and family-centered care for optimum outcomes. Job Description

To direct operations of specific, inpatient nursing unit(s) with scope score range ranging from 20 to 29 as defined in the UAB Medicine Nurse Manager Recruitment and Retention Plan. To ensure quality patient care, competent and responsible personnel, cost efficiency and effective utilization of unit resources to support the values and goals of UAB Hospital. To promote satisfaction and effective communication with patients/families, staff, physicians and other departments, promote staff development, and schedule nursing staff. To be responsible for 24-hour, 7 days a week unit coverage. To interview and recommend hiring of qualified candidates, ensure orientation of new staff, evaluate performance of staff, recommend staff promotion, discipline, and conduct terminations as necessary. To develop annual budget for unit(s), detail needs for capital equipment and personnel resources, and complete special projects or assignments as requested.

Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in Nursing with Masters in Nursing or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Prior Leadership experience preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
