Job summary

Harrison County Community Hospital (HCCH) in Missouri is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for Med/Surg. The role provides high‑quality nursing care, assesses, plans, and implements individualized care plans, administers medications, and collaborates with the healthcare team to support patient outcomes.

Candidates must graduate from an accredited nursing program, hold an active Missouri RN license, and have BLS (ACLS within 6 months). 1–2 years inpatient experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program.
  • Missouri RN license currently active.
  • BLS certification; ACLS within 6 months.
  • 1–2 years hospital inpatient experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform clinical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and develop individualized care plans with the team.
  • Administer medications and IV therapies as ordered.
  • Monitor patient responses and document in EMR.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment and discharge plans.
  • Provide direct patient care including wound care and hygiene.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN), Med/Surg
Department: Med/Surg

Location: Harrison County Community Hospital (HCCH)
Reports to: Director of Nursing

Job Summary/Objective:

The Registered Nurse (RN) high-quality, compassionate nursing care to patients. This role involves assessing, planning, and implementing individualized care plans, monitoring patient conditions, and collaborating with the healthcare team to support optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities include administering medications, managing treatments, and adhering to the standards of nursing practice. This role requires graduation from an accredited nursing program and a current RN license.

Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  • Administer medications, including IV therapy, and perform treatments as ordered by physicians.
  • Monitor and document patients' responses to treatment, reporting any changes in condition to the healthcare team.
  • Educate patients and their families on health management, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Provide direct patient care, including wound care, hygiene assistance, and other personal care tasks as necessary.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality, safe, and effective patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Participate in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Perform clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and administering injections.
  • Respond quickly to changes in patient conditions, implementing life‑saving interventions when necessary.
  • Serve as a resource to CNAs, LPNs, and other staff, providing guidance and support.
  • Stay current on best practices in nursing through continuing education and training programs.

  • Strong clinical skills with the ability to perform accurate assessments and critical thinking in patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Organizational and time‑management skills to prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • High attention to detail in monitoring patient conditions and documenting care.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and clinical equipment.
Education, Certificates, and License:
Education:
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program required.
Certificates / License:
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Missouri.
Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), active or obtainable within 30 days of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), active or obtainable within 6 months of hire
  • Additional certifications as required by the department or for specialty patient care
Experience:
  • 1-2 years of nursing experience in an inpatient or hospital setting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Lifting: Regularly lift/move patients or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Mobility: Frequent walking, standing, and moving for extended periods.
  • Posture: Bending, twisting, and reaching as needed during patient care.
  • Dexterity: Fine motor skills for tasks like administering injections, dressing wounds, or operating medical equipment.
