Job summary

Meritus NICU is seeking skilled Registered Nurses to care for premature and term newborns in a state-of-the-art unit with ventilator, CPAP, and advanced monitoring capabilities. The role emphasizes compassionate, family-centered care in a fast-paced environment.

Education includes ASN required and BSN preferred; magnet-recognized standards apply. Maryland RN license or a verified Compact license is required to practice in Maryland.

Qualifications

• Education: ASN required; BSN preferred.
• Experience: minimum 1 year in a hospital setting; NICU experience preferred.
• Licensure: Maryland RN license or Compact state license with Maryland eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Provide ventilator care and respiratory support.
• Place and maintain umbilical lines and IV access.
• Administer IV therapies, antibiotics, and fluids.
• Support nutrition through TPN, lipids, and enteral feeding.
• Collaborate with therapy teams (speech, PT) for neonatal care.
• Follow NEC prevention protocols and collect specimens as needed.
• Perform procedures like lumbar punctures and phototherapy management.

The Meritus NICU is seeking skilled and compassionate Registered Nurses to join our team and provide exceptional care for premature and term newborns. Our unit is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including cardiac monitors, phototherapy lights, IV infusion pumps, warming units, CPAP generators, ventilators, and more! We ensure that we can offer the best care possible to our tiniest patients.

What We Do:

We care for premature newborns (as early as 32 weeks gestation and/or 1500 grams) and term newborns, along with newborns transferred from higher-level centers. Each day is an opportunity to provide specialized, life-saving care in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Nursing Skills and Responsibilities:

• Resuscitation & Respiratory Support: Provide ventilator care, CPAP, oxyhood, HFNC, and more.
• Umbilical Line Placement & Maintenance: Ensure safe and effective placement and ongoing care.
• IV & Antibiotic Therapy: Administer IV therapy, antibiotics, glucose management, and fluid maintenance.
• Nutritional Support: Manage TPN, lipids, gut priming, and enteral feeding.
• Collaboration: Work closely with speech and physical therapy teams to support the needs of our newborns.
• NEC Prevention & Protocols: Follow strict protocols for the prevention and management of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC).
• Specimen Collection: Collect specimens for central lines, venous, and capillary needs.
• Advanced Procedures: Perform lumbar punctures and hyperbilirubinemia management (single, double, and triple phototherapy).

Requirements:

Education - ASN Required. BSN Preferred.
Experience - Minimum of one year of experience in a hospital setting required. Prior NICU experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification - Specialty certification recognized by the Magnet Recognition Program™ preferred. Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland, or if resident of a state that participates in Nurse Multi-State Compact agreement, holds Registered Nurse License from that state that is designated as "Compact" or "Multi-State Privilege" using primary source verification and provides additional documentation as required by the Maryland Board of Nursing. RN License from a compact state with a designation of "Single State" does not meet the requirement and nurse must obtain a Maryland license. Specialty certification preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Ability to apply the standards of professional nursing practice with compassion and empathy. Basic computer skills required. Must possess a high level of organization and communication skills.
